Last week I started working as a tutor of Japanese. It has come about that I will be tutoring two students. Of those two students one is a first year student and one is a second year student. I have been looking foreward to helping students with Japanese since the summer. Meeting and talking with the students I am tutoring and reviewing a little on my own brought back some nice memories. When I think of those three years (taking Japanese classes), it is obvious that it was the best time of my recent life as a college student. Because of taking those classes, I was able to make some friends, and even thought it wasn't very long, I was able to find a wonderful relationship, and was able to find a language and culture that I have come to love. The things of those years have become treasured memories. To all of the teachers and fellow class mates, thank you so very much for everything!

To the new group of Japanese students: Do you're best and study well, and make it you're best college experience.

Like Me When You're Gone

Like winter misses the summer,

Like darkness misses the light,

Like the sun misses the moon,

Like night misses the day,

Like silence misses sound,

Like frailty misses strength,

Like fall misses the spring,

Like a frown misses a smile,

Like a forest misses the rain,

Like a tear misses joy,

Like a wing misses flight,

Like coldness misses warmth,

Like a flower misses the sun,

Like consciousness misses a dream,

Like me when your gone.

I went to work out with my friend Jon to the rec-center at the university tonight. At closing time, we were talking while we were walking back to our cars, and something in the sky caught my attention. To my surprise, it was a flock of birds. It was almost 11:00PM! They weren't bats. They were white and grey and kind of reminded me of sea gulls. It was kind of strange. I havn't seen something like that before. I wonder if that type of bird is typically out that late.

Regardless of Anything

Let us go from here.

Let us go on a great adventure.

Let us search for sacred things.

Let us travel from the channel to the ocean,

and from the ocean to the channel.

Let us search out the most pure and genuine things.

Let us try not to be frightened by the deepest abyss.

Even by the abyss that oppens a deep wound into the earth

even down into the black filthy grimy muck.

Let us try not to be frightened by the highest of peaks.

Even by the pure white summit standing higher than the clouds

even up into the shivering numbing cold.

Let us go regarless of how difficult.

Let us go regardless of the obsticals.

And, let us return victorious.

Hi. I'm Michael and welcome to my blog! I have been studying Japanese for a little over three years and have presently ran out of classes to take at the university so...I thought I should do something to keep up my skills in Japanese (and hopefully improve them also), so I thought this may be a good idea.

I will write a passage in English/Japanese and translate it to the other. (Hence the title)

There will not be a particular theme. I will be writing about anything and everything, so feel free to do the same if you decide to leave a comment. Also, if you are learning English/Japanese feel free to ask me any questions or point out any mistakes I make in Japanese (I would appreciate it very much!).
